Energy infrastructure under attack in the region
The country's power facilities have come under escalating strikes in recent weeks

Throughout the evening, Russian missile and drone strikes have led to electricity outages in large parts of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv.

A number of civilians were hurt while local people in the city's east were plunged into darkness and faced problems to water supplies, per reports from city officials.

At the same time, a young boy was killed in a different Russian drone strike in the Zaporizhzhia region in the country's south-east, according to regional authorities.

Russian forces has escalated strikes on power infrastructure over the last fortnight, while Ukrainian leadership has called for "real steps" from partner nations to increase pressure on Russia.

Authorities reported that 450 drones and over thirty rockets struck energy facilities, labeling such attacks as "cynical and calculated" and against "everything that sustains normal life" as temperatures become colder.

The energy minister said Moscow was "conducting extensive attacks" and technical staff were working to repair systems.

A barrage of missiles damaged power facilities and apartment buildings in the capital.

Multiple people injured in the attacks on the capital have been hospitalized, per statements from local officials.
